Original Kerry on Culture Night

September 10, 2014 Mucros Bookbinder web-7465

Original Kerry, the professional craft and design network in the County is promising a fun evening out on Friday 19th September next as part of their programme for Culture Night. Taking in glass blowing, book binding, weaving and chairmaking, Original Kerry will operate a bus tour that will circle Killarney. The tour will take in the studios of Mucros Bindery, Kerry Crafted Glass and Kerry Woollen Mills. The tour is free and can take a maximum of 16 people on a  first come first served basis on the night.  The meeting point is outside the Malton Hotel, in Killarney at 6pm. The bus will have a Kerry Craft Trails sign on its front.

Original Kerry is the promoter behind the Kerry Craft Trails initiative where Louis Mulcahy Pottery heads up the Trails experience along the Slea Head drive. Louis is opening his doors late on Culture Night offering poetry, song and pottery and lots of it! You can take in the full studio tour, try your hand at pot making under the watchful eye of an experienced potter and there will be tea and scones for all. Louis himself will be on hand to share in the fun and offer you an insight into just why this destination is the best location in Ireland to learn about the fine art of pot-making! A little further along the same road in Ballyferriter, furniture maker Pat Lawless will open his studio to offer plate making demonstrations in wood. Hand-carved plates were much loved by Kings and Peasants of old because of their beauty and texture and Pat promises that we will feel our heritage when we touch them on the night. Booking is advisable as places are limited. In Dingle town the smallest gallery in Ireland An Gailearaí Beag, is offering an evening of demonstrations featuring the craft of hand stitching leather with Elaine Waters from Uisce Saddlery, as well as the crafting of beech wood toys by Rosario Calandra from Ventry Toys. The evening will conclude with a demonstration into the making of the St. Brigit’s Cross using súgán and presented by Breandán O’ Conchúir. Further information call us on +353 86 8524222 or
